Do i have really good credits to get a cell phone?

i am planning to get a cell phone but someone told that i have to have good credits to get a cell phone? is it true? i would appreciate it if someone responds to me?

    Go to alltel.
    Start out with a prepaid plan.
    They dont require credit checks.

    yeah you do. i had to pay T-mobile $500 up front to get my phone, but then after a year of good payments and such i got it back. but if you dont want to spend that kind of money, it is best to go with a pay as you go plan.
