Do you need credits in order to buy and pay monthly for a cell phone?

My kids have prepaid and its actually cheaper than my kids have prepaid and buy minutes for the cards they will check your credit at sprint alltel verizon etc my sprint alltel verizon etc my kids have prepaid phone via the cards they will check your credit at sprint alltel.
